On June 3, while anxiously trying to find my way back to PJ, I committed a traffic offense, and was stopped by the police (actually it was a road trap block).
When I did not offer to ’settle’, I was given a traffic offense ticket (a ’saman’ for ‘memotong digarisan panjang‘). The police officer kindly offered that if I were to pay before June 17, I would be given a 50% discount.
So today, on the way to some errands, I went to the PJ police station to pay the traffic fine. The officer at the desk informed me that my ticket has not been keyed into the system yet, and therefore I cannot make my payment. I was told to go to the police station in ‘daerah Subang Jaya’, and request to have the ticket ‘keyed in’ before I could make the payment, otherwise I have to ‘tunggu lama sampai ia dah masuk sistem’.
I am thinking aloud here..
The authorities complained that people do not pay their traffic summons, and to encourage them to pay, an ‘early-payment discount’ is given. But for what, when one week after my ticket was issued, it was not ready for payment? That means I cannot take advantage of the discount. Another thing is, why does it take this long to process the tickets into the system?
I have not read the ‘yada yada’ (a phrase borrowed from Jarod) about 1Malaysia, but I am sure it would have been mentioned about improving efficiency of the government agencies, as a process to towards 1Malaysia?
Or is this EFFICIENCY, the 1Malaysia way? And we, Malaysians, better take it or leave it?
(peng’s note: I went all the way to the police station in ‘daerah Subang Jaya’, in Puchong, and paid a discounted fine of RM50. Beggars cannot be choosers, right?)

Richard, it’s so exhausting to live in the stone age. Not only do we have to deal with this, we are constantly bombarded by barbaric acts from barbarians!

On 4th June when I took Zorro, Helen and Gus to Ipoh Police HQ together with 64 others, there was not enough parking lots to accommodate us so I parked on the side road which was right infront of Tabung Haji, and damn I received an MBI parking summon for parking right infront of Tabung Haji Ipoh.
Had to pay RM40 for that 20 mins! These MBI fellers knew pretty well we were there for a reason, why the summon?
The heavy presence of police in the vicinity, and supporters were everywhere spilling onto the road because they were not allowed into the police compound, should it not be a good excuse to waive those summons?
Anyway one politician offered to ’selesai’ the summon but I told him it’s ok, I will pay and I can afford it till GE-13! Pay lah like a duke, afterall it’s only RM40 lah!

Jong,
I thought local council fine is RM20 only? Why that zombie’s administration is so hard-up for money! They should rob the Swiss banks, a lot of ‘hidden’ wealth inside!

Not keyed in?
Why wouldn’t they just key in and accept the payment?
Or were they hoping people would settle so no keying in required?
Gila punye lah!

I like Richard’s comment about us living in the stone age. I think he’s got something there! Everything is supposed to be online what – the guy keys in your summons at the offence site, and it should appear at HQ and wherever else at once. That’s what online means. Someone needs to tell them that.
So now I’ve got this my-video in my head: I see Fred Flintstone hammering away at a stone slab, next to your car. Then, I see you at Barney Rubble’s desk trying to pay your fine – and he’s staring at his stone tablet, and wondering why he sees nothing!!!

Jarod, paying RM40 because of poor town planning, that resulted in the lack of parking space, is NOT OK! And CANNOT TAHAN! We cannot tahan because paying taxes is not enough, we have to pay for poor governance!

Salak, I think it’s a conspiracy to punish those who do not ’settle’ on the spot! Ai ya, this is 1Malaysia mah!

Welcome back Pat..
I like the video in your head story.. I hope the hammering away don’t chip off my car paint work!
We have a regressive government, so I wonder why they need such ‘canggih’ purchases like the submarines and helicopters? Just climb onto the tallest tree la, or dig the ground la!

Peng,
I think RM20 is for no parking coupons on a parking box.
I parked my car on a straight road (did not obstruct any flow of traffic though!), on a stretch without parking boxes. There were 3 other cars parked before me and I guess we all got summons for RM40! Perhaps we were obstructing the view of Tabung Haji building.
