The following pictures are taken recently, of some villages in Malaysia, our country.
I am sure most of us have not seen or do not know of, how some fellow Malaysians, that is the ‘Orang Asli’ live.

Kecau, Kuala Lipis: Huts made of leaves, a home to the Orang Asli. This beats the 'rumah papan' in bigger towns hands down.

Kecau, Kuala Lipis: Close-up of a leaves hut.

Kg.Puyuq: Children after a round of mud-play.

Kg. Puyuq: A child standing in front of his home, laundry hanging over the roof.

Kg. Puyuq: A child in his birthday suit, swinging in play.

Kg.Puyuq: The village at a glance

Kg.Puyuq: An Orang Asli family
Now, don’t we feel privileged to be living in a comfortable home, equipped with the comforts of life?

People are always greedy, already rich still wants to be richer as if they can take it with them when they meet their creator.
This is the way umno threat the real ketuanan of this land.
Glad to see that you post the plight of these orang asli.

Richard, there’s so many stories about them that I am not at liberty to write about, you know sensitive to the you-know-who la! I agree with you about taking so much as if they can go back to ashes with them! I can never understand people who are way past their retirement age yet still scheming and conning to get more

You didn’t say where Kg Puyuq is located, Peng. Is it near Kuala Lipis too? Looks like one of the more remote & neglected OA communities. I live in Kg Pertak with the Temuan & since the Selangor Dam project the village has taken on a distinctly suburban feel – what with Astro dishes sticking out from half the houses, power lines, the sound of bushcutters on Saturday afternoons. Finally getting a broadband connection proved fatal to my former sense of living in the forest! Why don’t you come check out the Orang Asli resort of “Pertak Heights” sometime?

Antares, I think Kg.Puyuq is in Kelantan? Is Pertak in KKB? Actually I have not been to any OA villages. Most accounts are from friends. Well, I hope to visit one day!

Go to a OA village near your home town. Go Tapah. Along the way to the land of BOH TEA and you will find a lot of them staying there. I’ve been there. The help will not come if not for those sincere people who had help them all the while. Wait for it and……… it will never come. Because they always say: Promises can be broken any time.
Go and visit them! They are nice people.

I know there are people going into these villages regularly to provide medical and other aid. Some in Perak, Pahang & other states. Like I say, this is one topic we cannot really discuss here, or else we don’t know what hit us!
Kapoom there goes the work.. cannot do anymore!

Lots of delicate work there, peng! Those involved, work within so much contraints, that the only motivation is their immense understanding of a living breathing people. It may not be enough just to bring hygiene and modern housing, or to some extent education. Should be interesting to hear from people who are directly involved.

That’s very true. I have heard a lot about the difficulties in getting approval for water & electricity supply, after construction of houses are completed. Till now, some are still living without these utilities, because the authorities chose to be picky about things. And there were also incidents of MIB or SB going the villages when they know of visitors going there to distribute food etc. Constraints or intimidation, to keep the OA, as asli as possible?

“to keep the OA, as asli as possible?”
hmm… impossible.. With development and soo much destruction… I cannot see the daylight. Darkness seems to be cover all over….

Jarod, the idea to keep them as ‘asli’ as possible is to deny them the modern facilities! So that they can be refrained from claiming their rights as the true bumiputera! Of course the rampant and irresponsible development are slowing raping and robbing them of their basic rights, the right to live peacefully on their on land!
