I know that the subject of Raja Petra’s release today will be the headlines in most blogs. I was not wrong. By the time I could log on to the computer at 1.30pm, several blogs had already posted the news. Late as it is, I will still write down my thoughts about this to be shared with you.

Nov 7 is a significant day.
I have marked it in my mind, that on this day I will glue myself to the computer for news update of RPK’s habeas corpus decision. But it was not to be. At work, I had two appointments, back to back from 9.30am until 1pm.

In the early morning, I quickly text messaged my blogsphere buddy, Jong to update me via sms. When Jong called me, I was on my way to an appointment about 60km away from my office. It was 9.56am and I was in the car with my boss and another colleague. Picture this; when I took the call Jong shouted excitedly, ‘peng, he’s free!’ Under normal circumstances, I would have leaped from my seat and make a lot of noise and continued to prance around like a monkey ran loose. But with my boss seated next to me, I could only manage a controlled, ‘that’s great news’ ,while she filled me in on the rest. After I got off the phone, I announced to no one in particular, ‘RPK is free’. My boss asked, ‘was that your lawyer?’ Huh, where did that come from? Are all bosses so ‘blur’? Thanks Jong. Your call made my day, although I have to endure the rest of the day in meetings.

After work, I made my weekly drive to Ipoh. On the way, so many thoughts came to mind. I reflected on my prayers and doubts that my prayers will be answered. I am reminded that there are ISA detainees still inside Kamunting. It is still a long walk to freedom for them.
Then God showed me a sign. I saw a most beautiful rainbow in the sky. Is there a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Perhaps not, but there is hope. Today’s event has confirmed that.

I praise and thank God for this wonderful day. And I thank men for not giving up hope.

As Robert Frost wrote in his poem, ‘… I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep’. We have much to do before we can lower our guards and relax.

Do whatever you are gifted to do; speak, write, organize, cheer, encourage – what you can. Just do it.
